Diesel Facepark Event

So, it may not be the most mind-bendingly original idea, and yes, it toys dangerously close to the power lines separating subversive genius and juvenile mockery, but hats off to Diesel for successfully turning Mauer Park in Berlin, Germany into a realtime, live Facebook page.

The mock-social network site was built as a free event inviting the multi-national denizens of Berlin to the park where participants were given makeshift profile pages made of cardboard. This all coincides with the brands year-long "Be Stupid" campaign which is centered around the concept of embracing analog means of communication and expression.

Neo-Luddites in the fashion world? Sure, why not?

The announcement text read as follows:

"Smart likes digital. We officially don't care what smart likes or does. We "the stupid ones", prefer the park to the "platform". That's why we take the status and the wall and the comment and the stalkers and the friends and make them real again. We hereby officially announce the birth of FACEPARK. A stupid idea that might change the world. But probably won't. It's smart not to join us. Be stupid."

It may muster the occasional eye roll, but you can't knock Diesel for not being thorough. The scene was complete with friend-add's, profile updates, bands and of course everyones favorite. . . pokes.
