In my recent visit to NYC, I saw some good stuff in the streets. Beyond the street artists and the touristic attractions, like a chubby guy that I am, I saw the Food Trucks preparing all kinds of food. As we all agree, street food is already a big trend there.
Here in São Paulo (Brazil) we have a lot of food carts on the streets, and we can find all sorts of food. . . but it´s not a "good" option. Here, most of these street carts aren´t prepared and trained to store and cook in this kind of environment. This is a big problem because they can contaminate both the food and consumers. Most of the people that eat on the streets, eat because it´s cheap and not because it´s good or healthy. Cart food is not glamorous here, it’s junk food.
Our cultural attitude towards food is different. We like to sit and eat inside a brick-and-mortar location. Most of the food trends here are restrarants that sell food experiences, so I don´t believe that the “sophisticated cart food movement” will be a trend here. Moreover, these carts will be in risk of assault here, the streets of SP aren´t totally secure.
We have a lot of regional food options from different Brazilian regions. We can find food from Bahia to Rio for all prices. So when you come to SP, ask around about the good places to eat, you won’t regret it.

I’m thankful for your post. This is a time where Globalization is a synonym for Americanization.
Cultural differences between Anglo Saxon and Latin mentality are nothing but irreconcilable. Local trends are the future for corporate globalization.
