If we needed more evidence that modern man is as lost as ever, look no further than the Bromance app, coming soon for the Android and iPhone. Currently in beta, Bromance is a beckon call to wandering and wearily alone males, tirelessly looking for camaraderie and bromantic kinship. A platonic "meet up and hang" app for guys looking to meet new buds like some digital elementary school swimming hole. Here’s how things break down on the site:
Meet Bromance. The iPhone App that connects you to other guys nearby with the same likes/interests as you. Find yourself a workout buddy and get in shape. Organize some Ultimate Frisbee action with other guys around you. Want to meet up and play a game of hoops? Bored on a Friday night and want to grab a beer? Perhaps you want to organize a LAN party with like-minded gamers?! Bromance. The location-based network for dudes that do.
Oh, and did we mention that girls can be bro’s too? Because apparently, they can.
Bromance uses the same location-based technology utilized by sites like SCVNGR, GRINDR and FOURSQUARE, and with girls AND guys both being allowed in the mix, Bromance doesn’t really offer up much of anything new aside from a title thoroughly entrenched in the annals of played-out humor and warmed-over social phenomenon. The notion that simply because it’s called “Bromance”, anyone would see this as being any different than what is already readily offered by Foursquare (along with their endlessly expanding network), is a poorly thought out one at that.
While the effort screams of a lack of market research (bordering on sheer oblivion), “Bromance” is a trending topic today. So, this may be something that just washes in with the tide and is gone by the next morning.
We’re calling this one now: D.O.A.
