Remember 2010? Food Trucks were cool because they slung high-end Bahn-Mi to hoards of hungry hipsters on side streets? And remember 2011? Retail Trucks were cool because they sold high-end fashion like they slung high-end Bahn-Mi to hoards of hungry hipsters? Those were good times. But for the coming of 2012, eyewear master Warby Parker is taking the “think small. think mobile” credo that helped capitalize those industry revolutions, and doing away with the superfluous need for two extra wheels, gas and hell, even the roads themselves. They thought really small and really, really mobile.
Warby Parker slimmed their “buy a pair, give a pair" sales model down to an eco-friendly, and dare we mention button-cute, beach-cruiser bike system, to hock their goods. "The turquoise blue cruisers, assembled by custom bike makers Republic, feature front display cases containing up to 15 different eyeglass frames”, according to the brand.
The bikes are taking their first runs around the beaches of South Miami this weekend for the 10th annual Art Basel Miami Beach conference. And you’ll never be too far from looking smart and seeing straight. The bikes whereabouts are trackable via their twitter feed, (let’s just hope you can read the text!).
With the assisted-eyes of the art, fashion, advertising and marketing worlds practically glued to the daily happenings spilling onto South Beach over the next 72 hours, Warby Parker couldn’t have picked a more optimal time to showcase a delivery system such as this.
What’s next? iPhones sold on skateboards?
Well, the “Mobile Mobile-Phone Dealer” does have a nice ring to it.
